Gerry Kinch and Sequin Kay: An Artistic Fusion

Gerry Kinch

Gerry Kinch’s journey is one of resilience and artistic evolution. From a challenging East End upbringing, art became Gerry’s escape and eventual career. Initially sidelined by the strict entry requirements of art colleges, he found his path through sign-writing, which he later expanded into a successful business. The transition from traditional sign-writing to gilding, including the prestigious project of gilding the Asian Room at the British Museum, marked a turning point. Gerry’s work is characterized by a fusion of classical Renaissance techniques with modern innovations. His artistic journey, filled with global experiences and high-profile commissions, reflects his commitment and passion for art.

Sequin Kay

Sequin Kay's artistic path is rooted in the multicultural vibrancy of South London. With formal education from Camberwell College of Arts and Goldsmiths University, Sequin’s style evolved through various mediums, including mixed media, textiles, and sculpture. Her work explores complex themes such as the cosmos, transpersonal psychology, and surrealism. Sequin's fascination with crystals and their reflective properties has shaped her distinctive approach to art, combining personal introspection with visual splendor. Her global experiences, including a transformative period in India, deeply influence her creations.

The Meeting and Collaboration

Gerry and Sequin’s paths crossed nearly a decade ago at Trinity Buoy Wharf. Sequin, adorned with crystals, walked into Gerry's studio, sparking a unique connection. Despite their differing artistic styles—Gerry's classical and skill-based approach versus Sequin’s subjective and introspective work—they found common ground in their mutual fascination with crystals. The initial meeting led to a serendipitous collaboration, blending their respective strengths and philosophies. For Gerry, the energy of Sequin’s crystals brought a new dimension to his Renaissance-inspired techniques, while Sequin found in Gerry’s work a complementary form of energy and craftsmanship.
